RICHARD  LESTER
Return to Home Page

Richard Lester has now established a world-wide reputation as one of the great harpsichord virtuosos of the twenty-first century.

His monumental recordings of the complete keyboard sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti for Nimbus Records have won unprecedented acclaim in this country and in the United States as ‘the definitive collection and unreservedly recommended.’ In 2006 Gramophone magazine honoured him with a personal profile.

He has given numerous concerts at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Bath International Festival, Dartington International Summer School, Bruges Festival, and in 2007, a sell out concert at London’s South Bank Centre. Lester’s Scarlatti recordings are regularly broadcast on BBC Radio Three, and Classic FM: and on BBC Desert Island Discs, Dame Janet Baker chose a particular disc as her favourite.

In an academic capacity he has contributed articles in leading early music publications, including the Hungarian Book ‘Regi Zene’ and participated in a Scarlatti symposium with Peter Katin, Andreas Staier, Nikolai Demidenko and Yevgeny Sudbin.
